Disney’s Shanghai Island Pavilion, Shanghai, China

LC_2701 January 20, 2017 Commercial, F&B, Hospitality, Institutional, Mixed-Use, Multi-Purpose, Private, Retail, Dining & Entertainment, Theme Park

Project Architect: Timothy C. Geisler, AIA
Client: Undisclosed
Size: 130 sq. m
Status: On hold

In 2013 we were asked to design a VIP club and tea house on a key site strategically located in the middle of the lake to the south of Shanghai Disneyland. Our architectural work yielded the following elements that we think capture the Client’s vision:
– China’s heritage architecture, which reinforces the park’s flourishing relationship with its specific host country.
– Formal, orthogonal relationship of simple, small scaled elements, which from a distance suggests a low-intensity program and a restful, comfortable experience on the island.
– Classical ornamentation and hand-crafted details, which make the foreground visually rich for guests on the island as they take in the spectacular distant views.
